Meet the brewmaster

Rockne Van Meter

Rockne Van Meter has been brewing professionally since 2002, earning a reputation across the industry for precision and for beers that stay true to their style.

Before joining Redwood, he spent roughly 15 years as head brewer at Bastone Brewery in Royal Oak, where he collected more than a dozen Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup awards. In 2014, the Brewers Association named him Small Brewpub Brewer of the Year, the industry's highest individual honor.

That standard carries into Redwood Brewing Co. Under Rockne, Redwood has won over 100 awards in global and national competitions including the World Beer Cup, Great American Beer Festival, World Expo Of Beer, North American Beer Awards, and the New York International Beer Competition, among others.

A Grand Blanc resident for more than 20 years, Rockne was a regular at Redwood long before he ran its brewhouse. He continues the tradition the brewery has kept since 1996: true-to-style award-winning beer, made on site, from authentic ingredients.
